There are many traits that define a person or an entity. Everything we do — as individuals, as a collective, as an organization or as a society — speaks directly or indirectly about who we are, what we like, what we stand for, what we believe in, and what we value. Some of these traits are physical, while others — no less important — are intangible.

We have gathered the five core values of the Alki brand and documented them in video format — one video for each value — to share with the world what Alki does and believes in.

Chapter 1: Militancy

Alki was founded in 1981 during a time of crisis in the Basque Country, when many young people were seeking opportunities outside the region. Five friends decided to join forces to create skilled jobs and contribute to the region’s economic development. Located in Itxassou, a village far from industrialization, Alki’s first workshop was established with strong ideological and financial support, adopting cooperative values that went beyond purely economic concerns.

The company embraces a militant culture, defending territorial development, sustainability, fair wealth distribution, and support for local culture. Its ambition is to create both a cultural and commercial project that acts as a catalyst for regional development, fostering cooperation between people and businesses to offer the best to its clients. Additionally, Alki supports and collaborates with individuals, initiatives, and projects that add value and work toward a better future for the territory.

Chapter 2: Cooperative Culture

The cooperative brings together committed men and women, united by the conviction of building a shared future. As collective owners of the company, they uphold the values of democracy: one person, one vote. Guided by their economic, social, and cultural aspirations, part of the company’s profits is distributed fairly among all workers, while another part is reinvested based on common values and interests, in line with their founding principles.

Chapter 3: Sustainability

Alki’s commitment begins in the forest, where oak wood —its primary raw material— grows. 100% of this wood comes from sustainably certified forests, most of which are located in France. All of Alki’s products are manufactured in its own “zero energy” workshop, located in the heart of the Basque Country. Moreover, 80% of its suppliers are located within a radius of less than 100 km. This is why Alki advocates for transparency and invites everyone to carefully examine the origin, materials, and manufacturing conditions of the products they consume.

Chapter 4: Knowledge

Oak wood requires between 80 and 150 years to reach maturity, which is why it deserves to be treated with great responsibility. At Alki, design and production are carefully considered to ensure the durability of each product. Every piece of furniture is crafted with great attention, combining traditional craftsmanship with technological knowledge. Their extensive experience working with solid wood is complemented by other trades such as upholstery and metalwork, allowing them to create timeless pieces that go beyond passing trends.

Chapter 5: Creativity

Alki collaborates with creatives from around the world across various disciplines such as industrial design, graphic arts, photography, programming, craftsmanship, and architecture. Their aim is to foster knowledge through the meeting of these talents, encouraging debate and the transformation of ideas into tangible objects. Their success lies in distinguishing what is acceptable from what is exceptional, always prioritizing quality and excellence.
