Hemendik is a self-initiated project we created together with Iratzoki Studio to highlight the creativity and history of our country through storytelling. A project that aims to build bridges between industry, culture, and society by narrating creation processes, as they open up ways to adapt to new situations and times.
Hemendik means “from here” in Basque. To launch the project, we published a book that tells the story of the region in an evocative way through a selection of 50 iconic objects from the Basque Country. A book that starts from the past to reveal the present, with the aim of inspiring the future.
And to that end, together with typographer Iñigo Jerez from Extra Type, we created the Hemendik typeface. An exploratory exercise that blends the historical and contemporary aspects of Basque lettering with Art Deco aesthetics. The result is a typeface that becomes a central element of the brand’s visual identity, featuring custom glyphs and diagrams that give the project a strong sense of character and place, representing the territory to the world in an authentic and contemporary way.
